Can I create a completely new XML for Product display.

In detail:

Can I duplicate existing XML and Rename it with all modifications.

Will that work.

Sure, you can add new XML packages. Just make sure they follow the product.***.xml.config naming convention and they'll show up in the admin site to use for your products.

What if you have two identical xml files showing up in admin specifically product.SimpleProduct.xml.config and the file will no longer update on the product page. Deleting the file and re-uploading changes nothing. Linking to each in admin also change nothing.... getting frustrated.

I suspect you have a duplicate xmlpackage in your Skin_x/xmlpackages directory - try changing that one.

I actually went on to remove(delete) my file in the root xml folder; still the file was available in admin.... Then I ensured all products that might be referencing it were changed to a new "xml package for display" and in the dropdown the file was still listed. So now I have no file visible on the server, but the file still shows listed on the product page and if I try to use it the old template is available. If I send up the deleted(on server) file that is still listed the product page I get two identical listings generated.

I frigged with my browser and one hundred other things before I noticed it up twice and would really like to understand how to remove it so I can upload and start fresh. BTW with two listed it still looks at the original file and not the deleted and re-uploaded version.

Hi TTFN,

No I don't have a duplicate,even deleted the file on the server and my page still displays the missing template. Once deleted I can see only one reference to the file on the product admin. If I upload a new one (product.SimpleProduct.xml.config) it adds a second one to the dropdown. I am not a backend guru but it must be getting cached in a data-base. I can't understand any other way for it to be still displaying.

If anyone has other ideas I am all ears.

Hey BFG,

I did look there and was sure I did not see it. When I saw your screen-capture I went back figuring I had better look at it again especially with the effort to make it visual. I can't believe I missed that or how long I clung to the idea I was missing somthing more technical and basically wasted half a day.

Thank you for making it clear that I had better check again. I can't believe I somehow uploaded it to the wrong directory and that was the issue.... arg! Probably not the first one to do this.
